Mask of Zorro, The - How Long?
When Chaterinne has walked into the stable to talk to Roberto (her father, Zorro) she asks him how long he has known Antonio, he says "sometimes it seems like forever." Then she makes the comment that he looks familiar, he says that they could have never met because he hasn't been in Spain since before she was born, but didn't Antonio supposedly just come from Spain a couple of days earlier?

The old Zorro, Anthony Hopkins, is the one who means he hasn't been to Spain since before she was born. He is her real father but she isn't supposed to find out yet. The comment refers to him because she was taken away from him before she was 1 years old and so he lies about when he was last in Spain because her "fake" father, who stole her away from Anthony Hopkins, may find out he's back in town.

I believe what they are referring to is that since Delavega (Anthony Hopkins) is pretending to be Alejandro's servant than he would have come over from Spain with Alejandro.

OK, Diego de la Vega's alias is Bernardo not Roberto. And no, Alejandro didn't just come from Spain. If you watched the beginning one of the boys is Alejandro and the whole story takes place in Mexico, never in Spain.

It doesn't matter if he was ever in Spain or not. Did it ever occur to you that he is lying? I mean he's already lying about his identity why couldn't he be lying about where he's been.

okay, I think Alli is correct, but also remember: Don Alejandro could've collected Bernardo from another estate to accompany Don Alejandro on his journey of California.
