Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - What's the Prize Amount?
The main reason for Raoul to go to Las Vegas is to cover the Mint race. When Raol and Dr. Gonzo enter Vegas for the first time and are about to park in front of their hotel there is a banner for the Mint race that says the prize is $100,000. Later in the movie however, when the race begins and dust is flying around there is another banner at the start/finish line only this one says that the prize is now $50,000.

If you listen to the announser he says, "A prize of $50,000 will be given to the first to cross the finish line." If you know how races work you know that the total amount of prize money is distributed to all the members of the race. Example...Winner gets $50,000....Second gets $25,000 and so on. $100,000 is the total prize money. $50,000 is for the winner.
