Jabba, First of all, don't take it too personally. As mentioned before, it is a cartoon and it is a common thing to do in cartoons. Secondly, there is a possibility that either the muck was washed off or that Homer wiped it off. There is not necessarily a time lapse equal to the time lapsed watching the episode. Lastly, remember things such as how Homer can shave and then have his five o'clock shadow the very next moment.

Repeat after me: "It's a cartoon." Ever see those episodes of Tom and Jerry where Tom would get his face blown off, then look completely normal just a few seconds later? The same principle is at work here.

Actully, when Homer got baptized by Flanders, it was with a cup or something, not a shot. And second of all, he fell in to the water after he got baptized which made the muck come off!
