Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi - Lost Tie Fighters
Before they cut to the scene where they show Vader's master arriving on the Death Star there is a shot of the outside of the ship. A group of TIEs come up form behind the camera and are getting smaller as they arch towards the bottom of the screen followed by a second group. If you follow the first group you will see that as it approaches the bottom of the screen they suddenly disappear!!!

If you watch one of the scenes with clips of the outside of the Death Star with Tie fighters circling it, there is a group of Tie interceptors heading away from the screen towards one of the big landing bays, but they just disappear about halfway to the landing bay.

If you look closely, they (the TIE fighters) are actually going to another bay. The empire is not that cheap or that stupid for that matter to keep all their ships in one bay. And it seems logical that since the death star is so big, that they have their fighters in separate bays. This "goof" was made to save time.
